What is "1482"?
We are an illustration and design collective. We offer visual solutions for just about any communication medium and format.

Is Studio 1482 an illustration representative/agency?
No. Studio 1482 is maintained and operated by the artists. You deal directly with the artist you want to work with.

Can I work with one artist or must I hire the whole studio?
Each of our eight members is hired directly based on a client's choice. We can also be hired as teams for larger projects.

Do you do spec work?
It is against our studio policy to do spec work. Any of our artists would be happy to quote you a fee for comp illustrations for your client presentation.

Where does the name Studio 1482 come from?
No, it's not a significant year. In our formative days we met and worked out of a small studio at 1482 York Avenue in New York City. The studio was named to pay homage to the location that holds special meaning to us.

What is reportage?
The word reportage comes from the old French, "to report," or to give an account of something observed, heard, or investigated. Reportage illustration can be descriptive of places or events, and can become an editorial or essay on a subject, through direct observation. Of course, the artist's interpretation will become apparent. Reportage may be seen as a stylistic choice, but we also use it on a different level. We take our observations as a point of departure for further exploration, understanding, and interpretation of a subject. We translate that understanding to meet our clients needs.
